Every chatbot pricing page shows a friendly sticker price. The real bill depends on the billing model underneath it — and there are only three. Understand those, and the whole market gets simple.

1. Flat monthly. One price, however busy you get. Rare, because vendors earn less from your best months.
2. Per-message / per-conversation metering. The most common model. You buy an allowance (500, 1,000, 2,000 AI replies) and pay overages beyond it. Predictable until the exact moment your business succeeds.
3. Per-resolution. You pay each time the AI fully resolves a ticket — roughly US$0.90–1.00 per resolved conversation on the big platforms. Aligned incentives, but at volume it is the most expensive model of all.
